  • LAN party
  • CTF/King of the hill hacking competition
  • colo/vps for members to subsidize an industrial pipe -- someone else mentioned actually creating an ISP/hosting coop as well
  • ^- I suggested we provide free VPS to members, and rent LAMP VPSes to 'outsiders' for "recommended donations" of $10 - 20/mo, which can be written off 100% as charitable donations by the VPS lessee. we cando  this with virtualization and get a pretty high VPS to host ratio (optimized, maybe 20 or 30 to 1).  - dr.kaos
  • Charity Poker Game & Silent Auction -dr.kaos

  • Take in peoples equipment as recycling or as a donation and sell on ebay -Eugene
  • Atlanta-centric technology podcast, or (even better) a regular "show" on YouTube.  At regular intervals, produce a video to demonstrate a cool project, talk about goings-on in the area (like Off The Hook but less scene/political) and occasionally do an appeal for donations.  - Eater
  • Add a coin slot to Curbob's arcade game.
Swag
Does selling swag count as charitable donations? Yes, if you charge a lot more than it's worth in the name of fund-raising. A shirt that's worth $15 (fair retail price) but sells for $40 to "support the cause" counts as a $25 donation. I'm sure there are more gotchas from the IRS perspective, but that's the gist. (Eater)
  • CNC milled keychains (like our new sign, but pocket sized. My HS robotics team did this, with great success)-Agox   (That would be awesome - Eater)
  • T-Shirts, Mugs, Boring Stuff (Bob next door puts designs on mugs -Sarah)
  • Notebooks that resemble paperback moleskins, maybe with graph paper like Makezine sells.  Just need to stamp the logo on there.  -Sarah
