How to load and cut different sized materials

Basic Video here: https://youtu.be/0hWX2hpWbu4

Basically: If you are using the mat, line it up with the very left line. For other materials, line up with the second line on the left and then move the right slider to a position that overlaps the material.

What to do if it isn't cutting

This guy likes to be at a deeper blade setting than the program says it should be. Do a test cut going up a couple of blade depths and see if that works. If not, try some of these other things: https://www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2019/11/silhouette-cameo-4-autoblade-wont-cut-5.html

Blades

Right now, we primarily have type B Blades. For most purposes, please stick with the following.

  • Light Blue: Fabric. Will not adjust automatically, so you will need to set it to the right number based on what the program tells you.
  • Black with threading: Rachet. Will not adjust automatically, so you will need to set it to the right number based on what the program tells you.
  • White with the numbers that look like a ruler: auto blade. If your settings are right in the program it should adjust it properly for you.
  • Fabric will work best with a rotary blade. JoAnna may have one in her secret stash if you need one. FOR FABRIC ONLY PLEASE!

Mats and Rolls

We have two mats. When in doubt, use the big mat:

  • The smaller of the two is STRONG GRIP. It will eat your paper materials. Use for fabric or heavier materials.
  • The machine will also cut material directly using the right settings.
    • If you are using material that is less than 24 inches and/or not on a roll, you will get the best results using a mat.
    • If it keeps messing up when you aren't using a mat, use a mat.
    • When in doubt, use a mat.

The machine will cut off rolls as well:

  • Set the mat guide to the proper width before feeding the mat or it will wonky. Remember to lock the guide into place with the little white lever on the right. LOCKED is UP (which seems counterintuitive).
  • Rolls need to be locked in, so they don't shift about. Remove the middle mat guide and use the right roll guide to lock it in place.
